I was riding my bike to work one Friday morning last summer. After waiting in the assumed bike lane, the light turned green and the three cars in front of me started moving and I soon followed. Less than 30 feet later as I rode past an Albertson's supermarket on Hilhurst, a woman who had been sitting in her parked car unbeknownst to me without checking just went an opened her door to get out. In the split second I had to react figuring there might be a car or 3 behind me I decided to stay the course and not swerve into the car lane. The front of my bike made immediate contact with her door and down I went and down I stayed until the police with help from some firefighters at a nearby station placed me in an ambulance heading to Kaiser Sunset.

The two weeks which followed were hell...I was told my left shoulder and left rib cage were badly bruised. Getting up; I moaned. Sitting down; I moaned. Walking; I moaned. Turning; I moaned. One night I came out of my shower and putting my hand to my mouth I let out my first sneeze since the accident, it hurt so much I had to call in sick the next day. I hadn't planned on getting an attorney; however, I was concerned in those days after I was "doored" that i would have a slow recovery. The only thing I can say is that one hears quite often the negative things that are said about lawyers and the legal profession.
